Jimmy's Journey... the color this month represents my own recent journey that has simultaneously come to an end
AND just begun. After 10 months of playing "host" to
this growing baby, I'm more than overjoyed to reclaim my body (and my stomach!). And as a gift to myself (i guess they call it a "push present"?),
I developed the following colorway with the girls from Lorna's Laces... the perfect combination of colors
that I love (and that are just a little bit boyish - for the new boy in our lives).
Island Blue, lavender, blackberry, denim, and cedar green...all mixed together to create a shade that's
springy and refreshing - and just screams "new life!" I hope you enjoy it as much as I do ... and that you'll
forgive me this one month of Limited Edition self-indulgence. :)

Springing into Summer means cleaning out our discontinued yarn stash! And what better way to do some cleaning
than to give you all some great deals on older, discontinued (but still gorgeous)
GGH Yarns. Whether you're
in the mood to work with a summery cotton tape (Bandidas) or a supersoft wool blend (Aldente),
all of these yarns are only $3.99 a ball (prices too good to pass up, perhaps!).
GGH Bandidas 57% Off (Now $3.99)
|
A cotton and acrylic tape, this MACHINE WASHABLE heavy worsted yarn comes in 9 velvelty colors
and has 99 yards per ball... enough to make this
Cap Sleeve Sweater or this
Basic Cardigan Vest for as little as $15.96...
Here are some other Bandidas yarn pattern suggestions.
|
GGH Alexis 57% Off (Now $3.99)
|
Tweedy, comfortable and sporty, you get 88 yards per bulky weight ball.
There are 8 color choices.
Alexis is made from a virgin wool blend that ensures a soft hand and a nice natural stretch.
I'd suggest grabbing 5 balls ($19.95!) and knitting
this kid's hooded vest...or perhaps 2 balls ($7.98) for
this basic beanie (it's never too early to start on those winter holiday gifts, right?).
Here are some other Alexis yarn pattern suggestions.
|
GGH Gracia 65% Off (Now $3.99)
|
Yes, novelty yarn and the 80s are coming back... and with a vengeance!
Gracia's luxuriously soft hair surrounds a solid black railroad to make a yarn that
matches all the of black we have in our wardrobe.... it's been hugely popular for trim -
at 99 yds, you'll likely need just 1 ball to trim mittens, hats, purses, scarves and sweater sleeves.
Or use 3 balls (yes, that's only $11.97) and quickly knit up
this Mac and Me Vest for Children. (Quick Note:
Here's an example of the Gracia knit up in a
Summer Top (from $19.95 to knit).)
Here are some other Gracia yarn pattern suggestions.
|
GGH Milano 65% Off (Now $3.99)
|
This shiny ribbon blend is showcased in a number of
Rebecca Magazines.
It's a worsted weight, so will work perfectly with almost all of your other patterns...and is ideal for summer knitting.
With just 3 balls, you could knit up a
small market bag... 5 balls (less than $20) is plenty for a fun and summery
leaf patterned scarf.
Here are some other Milano yarn pattern suggestions.
|
GGH Aldente 62% Off (Now $3.99)
|
Aldente is by far one of my favorite bulky yarns - it's a wool/microfiber blend that's super soft and lofty.
It's great for quick-knit sweaters that provide some warmth, but aren't too heavy... and with 121 yards per ball,
you barely need 2-3 balls to knit up this Women's Bulky Shrug for as little as $11.97! I simply can't imagine a better project idea - what a perfect price point for a thoughtful gift...
you'll want to do one in every color!
Here are some other Aldente yarn pattern suggestions.

The latest color in the
Lorna's Laces Color Commentary series is here! And we've already received it in 5 of our favorite yarns (of which we've photographed
and shown below)... With reds, greys, and blues, this color was inspired by the sunrises in Wendy Johnson's neighborhood.
(Wendy is the author of the recent book
Socks from the Toe Up.) If you're like most of us at the shop, I think you'll find that this color is
extremely versatile - and will work up beautifully for boys, girls, men, women and the house. It just goes with everything!
So grab a few hanks of your favorite fiber and get started on a fun summer project.

With all of these great yarns - and Limited Edition colors - I thought I should share a few of our favorite new patterns with you...
Hopefully one of the patterns below will inspire you - we certainly love them.
Take Me to Your Leader
|
They come in peace - bright and cuddly little aliens to tickle anyone's fancy!
Ranging in height from 7 to 8 inches, this new pattern is from the geniuses at
Knitting at Knoon.
Directions call for using worsted weight yarn (try the
Shepherd Worsted or the sale priced
Noro Kureyon)
- these fun fellas are just the right size for toting along on a little one's adventures.

Picot Ribbed Socks
|
These cute women's socks by
2 Askew Designs were designed with a cuff that can be worn down or up.
Socks shown were knit with the Dec 08 Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Color (Boughs of Holly), but these
would work up equally as beautiful in the Jimmy's Journey or WendyKnits. You'll want 2 hanks of Lorna's Laces
Shepherd Sock yarn to knit a pair.
|
Summer in the City
|
This new gentle poncho pattern by Ilga Leja is perfect for those cooler days when all you want is a light,
but elegant, cover-up.
Easy to work in the round, in an arrangement of Garter Stitch and wrapped stitches, it will
drape you with just enough warmth. The pattern has instructions for a shorter version and a longer version...
the shorter version takes just 2 hanks of
Shepherd Sport, while the full size poncho takes 3-4 hanks.
|
 Nicholetta Socks
|
This pattern by Nelkin Designs is a toe-up sock with tiny cables and a triangular heel. Sized to fit 7.75" and 8.75" foot circumference,
you'll need 2 hanks of Lorna's Laces
Shepherd Sock to make a pair.

Wow. If you haven't seen the Sublime Angora Merino yarn
before, you are in for a real treat. It is an exquisite blend of the softest extrafine merino wool and
the most luxurious angora fiber.
This beautifully soft Italian yarn has an irresistible touch and comes in sumptuous colors.
It's truly one of my favorites - and the pattern support is simply phenomenal (i'm having a bit of trouble
breathing right now - as i just can't decide what to knit with it... ahhhh!!!). 130 yards per ball,
80% Extrafine Merino Wool and 20% Angora, it's on sale for only $6.50 a ball. Below are some of the projects that i'd like to start working on.
The Sublime Kid Mohair yarn
is spun from the very softest quality of kid mohair fiber and blended with a touch of merino wool.
It is amazingly light and comes in misty, exquisite, feminine colors. And for
50% off (that's $5.50 a ball), you get 122 yards! Here are a few project ideas ...
Oops! We accidentally ordered too much of the
New Noro Kureyon Colors
and are able to offer 20% off our overstocked inventory (normally $8.95,
these colors are on sale for $7.15 per ball). We don't have much of each color,
so grab it while you can... these are brand new colors, so will go very fast. Please note: when the price of a color
shows up at the normal $8.95, it means that we have sold out of the overstock for that color.
Rounding out the latest shipment of discontinued sale yarns are a few of the following from
Debbie Bliss,
Sirdar and Noro AT 50% OFF (or close to 50%).
Some of these products have been discontinued completely, while others are discontinued colors in
existing (and terrific) yarns.
