Limited Edition Color: Simply the Blues

Simply the Blues
(available in Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Sport, Shepherd Worsted, Lion and Lamb, and just a teeny bit of Helen's Lace.)
I know, I know... we were supposed to have an inspiring red or pink color for this month since February is all about Valentine's Day, American Heart Month, and other "red" themed events. Well, we're not going to. And here's why: One of the girls here has recently broken up with her boyfriend - and has NOT been looking forward to spending V-Day all by her lonesome. She says she has the blues, so we decided to swim upstream this month by offering "Simply the Blues"... In honor of all of those women that are single during February and are sick and tired of being inundated with images of red, wine, chocolate, and endless love - we've all been there! This color is a few of the blue colors blended together: denim, pond blue, china blue... call it the "Purple Club" or "Red Rover" of the blues...(Editor's note: I hope everyone realizes the lighthearted tone of the above story - we aren't trying to rebel against the establishment or anything... just thought that we'd have a little fun with Blue this month!)
![]() Fiber Trends Shoalwater Shawl |
Sandy has been raving about the Shoalwater Shawl for just about as long as I can remember and I've really fallen in love with it. The pattern includes instructions for four different yarn weights, so you could choose any weight of Simply the Blues (I think I'll do mine in Sportweight!). You'll need just 6 hanks of Shepherd Sport, or choose any weight you like (just check the yardage!). It is so versatile, how can you resist!?! |
![]() Carved Horn Shawl Pin - Dark Cat |
These little cuties from Lantern Moon snuck in right under my nose! Of course most of the girls in the shop are 'dog people', but I (Ashley) am a 'cat person' at heart and I think I might just have to use one of these shawl pins to fasten my Shoalwater Shawl. They also come in leaves, owls, and dragonflies. |
![]() Norah Gaughan Vol. 4 |
It's here!! Norah Gaughan Volume 4 arrived in the shop and immediately caught the attention of all of us here. Kristen and I are particularly fond of the cover pattern, Flower Child, but we all love the bohemian and romantic designs that Norah Gaughan is so well known for. |
![]() Children's V-Neck Down Pullover |
Hot off the press! Diane from Knitting Pure and Simple just dropped this off at the shop -- one of her latest children's patterns -- and we think it's adorable! You'll need 3-5 hanks of Shepherd Worsted in Simply the Blues to make one of these for your little one. |
![]() The Expectant Knitter |
Expecting? Or maybe you know someone who is? Marie Connolly's The Expectant Knitter is both inspiring and comforting. The projects are divided into three sections -- one for each trimester -- and begin with a short section that discusses what to expect, followed by patterns appropriate for your comfort level during that trimester. Everything from dog sweaters for the four-legged 'baby' in your family to rompers and sweaters for the big brother or sister. It truly is the perfect mix of patterns for a growing family! |
![]() Neckdown Cowl Collar Pullover |
A perfect spring sweater, this neckdown cowl-collared sweater from Knitting Pure and Simple (as always) features seamless construction. When knit as shown, the 3/4 sleeves are ideal for warm-ish days or wearers who always have their hands in something (like me!). You'll need 5-8 hanks of Shepherd Worsted or 5-9 hanks of Lion and Lamb in Simply the Blues for an extra yummy sweater! |
New Just Released Lorna's Laces Colors!
Finally, we should mention that Lorna's Laces has also released 5 new colorways for spring. We currently have those colors available in Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Sport, Shepherd Worsted, and Helen's Lace. In a few weeks, we'll also have them in Lion and Lamb. If you like one of the colors, I'd recommend taking a look at photos of it in each of the yarns listed above... it's amazing to see how the different fibers and weights soak up the dye differently!
