And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest knitters and crocheters found themselves united against a common threat... and the battle call came, "Crafters, Assemble!"
 | Ok, we don't know what that common threat would be (dropped stitches? Mismatched dyelots? Or perhaps - shudder - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?), but we're ready to answer the call with our newest Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Color, inspired by (you guessed it), Marvel's The Avengers: introducing " Assemble!"! Like Nick Fury convening his capable crusaders, we've rounded up seven bases in this rainbow-tastic colorway: |
Our resident color connoisseur and superhero sage, Monika, came up with this bam-kapow explosion of fun hues to represent the mix of brightly colored uniforms of The Avengers.
And like the members of that famous team, even though each is unique, they all come together to make something that's so much more than the sum of its parts! |  |
Like Thor striking Mjölnir against Captain America's vibranium shield to create a giant shockwave, this mix of colors is all about teamwork: the bright blues, glowing greens, rich reds, and dramatic, dark grays would all stand out on their own, but together, they can "fight the foes no single superhero can withstand!"
Ok, I'm mixing my metaphors here, but they would look amazing in Monika's Avenger Cape. Designed to speak to the superhero in all of us (and to honor Monika's personal superhero, her grandmother Inge!), this marvelous, mischievous cape uses 3 skeins of Shepherd Sport (4 for the hooded version); the pattern includes options for an angular collar or mysterious hood, plus instructions for knitting an optional lace Avengers "A" right into the back!  | And, it's just in time for the premiere of the new "Avengers: Age of Ultron" movie on May 1st. Excited to get your own cape on the needles? We are! But first, we thought we'd brush up on a few techniques featured in Monika's pattern; namely, short rows! These special shaping rows add dimension to garments for better fit, and they're relatively easy to execute, especially once we show you the trick to it! We've rustled up a couple of videos to help you master the techniques of wrapping stitches and picking up wrapped stitches, or just refresh your memory if it's been awhile since you used these superpowers! |
