This Black Friday, we're doing things a little differently... It's always been our belief that a rising tide lifts all boats; what's new and innovative in our industry helps propel ALL of our businesses forward. We've been lucky enough to see rapid growth in our company over the past 17 years and we don't take that influence lightly. That's why today, instead of basking in our light with yet another cliché sale, we'd like to take a second to let those around us shine.
We're flipping the script. We're asking you to turn your attention to the small business owners, the designers who are propelled by their dreams, the indie dyers who have revamped and skyrocketed our industry into new territories, to share some of our favorite brands that have a purpose and use their passion to also give back, and to help us raise money for a little kid with one big wish!
Help Jimmy send Junior to LEGOLAND®!
Along with hosting a collection of products from brands/designers/dyers/and organizations, we're also focusing on a little boy named Junior today. Partnering with the local chapter of Make-A-Wish®, we are helping a 7-year-old with a wish to go to LEGOLAND! Junior has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and November marks his last month of chemotherapy!
We're dedicated to making Junior's wish come true and with your help, we can do just that!

Products That Give Back
Just because October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month) is over doesn’t mean we stop supporting the many women that battle this disease every day. This year, we’ve partnered with BreastCancer.org and KnittedKnockers.org to bring more awareness to breast cancer through projects, exclusive colorways, and donations via pink products! Until we run out of these products, we will continue to donate a portion of the proceeds to help each charity in reaching their goals and spreading the word.

Support an Indie Dyer
We admire the tenacity of indie dyers. The process of starting your own business is scary - to take that leap of faith takes a whole lotta guts (and maybe some huge sinks for rinsing yarn). Below we have a few independent dyers we featured throughout this year that inspire us to push some boundaries and never forget our roots!

Designers with a Dream
For many designers out there, making a pattern or two is just their side job – something they can manage outside of a normal 9-5. Turning something you love into something profitable is everybody’s dream, no matter how niche your hobby may seem. This past year, we’ve seen tremendous growth through some of our favorite designers in what they’re creating and donating their time and energy to. We want to lift them up and shine the spotlight on their amazing work. You may have heard of some of these people, but hopefully, we can introduce you to a new designer or two!
Joji Locatelli Joji Locatelli is a master of drapey, intricate knitted designs. She explores how to use simple shapes to make something beautiful (she even designed last year’s knit Craftvent shawl!) and has fun doing it. Joji’s signature elegance is truly timeless and will always look good on your needles!
Julie Knits in Paris Julie Dubreux, AKA Julie Knits in Paris, is making waves with her eye for color and fun! Supporting indie dyers from around the world, Julie creates gorgeous patterns to truly show the beauty of the yarn. She’s been featured in magazines like Pom Pom Quarterly and Laine! Plus, blue hair? We’re jealous!
MarinJa Knits Knitting and designing her own patterns since the mid-’70s, Marin Melchior (MarinJa Knits) has been exploring how shapes and textures complement each other! Designer of the super-popular Papillon Shawl, she’s not afraid to push the boundaries of her color stories!
Tian Connaughton Designs Tian Connaughton brings us the best of both worlds by being an AMAZING designer and tech editor with a whole library filled with knit and crochet patterns! Her designs are easily accessible for the adventurous knitter, daring crocheter and beyond without sacrificing the beauty in simpler designs!
yellowcosmo Do you love lace? Cables, perhaps? Maybe you’re searching for some colorwork? Look no further, because Connie Peng (you may know her as yellowcosmo!) has you covered! Self-taught has never felt so good! Her extensive library of lacy shawls and soft sweaters has left us drooling and we can’t wait for more!
Brands with a Purpose
Some brands we carry have built themselves on giving back and helping out their communities. Whether through donations or employment, we admire their foundations and continue to support them through stocking them in our online and retail shops. Each brand is one-of-a-kind and gives back in such different ways - it really puts into perspective what we can all accomplish!
Kelbourne Woolens Kelbourne Woolens proudly supports the Fight for Fifteen by making sure none of their employees earn less than $15 per hour - this includes student interns! They happily welcome people of all backgrounds to fully support a diverse and inclusive range of both customers and employees! Kelbourne Woolens gives back to their community by ways of volunteering, educating, and donating yarn.
Knitter's Pride Knitter’s Pride makes it their mission to donate a portion of every purchase to manage and operate a school for underprivileged children who do not have access to formal education. They provide schooling to more than 900 students – most of whom are living in extreme poverty. Knitter’s Pride also has a policy to never refuse a job to women who are looking for one, as for most, this is their first place of employment.
Malabrigo Malabrigo employs mostly women and tries their best to give job opportunities to people who may have fewer opportunities than others. They have also been working to build themselves into a greener business. Their yarn is free from a range of harmful substances often found in manufacturing. Their superwash process uses a thin, diluted resin coating that is used in the making of facial tissues and paper towels.
Universal Yarn Universal Yarn uses their materials and time to donate to their local Charlotte refugee center. They help refugee women to produce items to supplement their income while learning about new projects and techniques in the process.
Urth Yarns Urth Yarns plants a tree for every skein purchased – you, read that right – Every. Single. Skein! By planting trees, they help cause a ripple effect, meaning families in affected areas can better afford their healthcare costs, focus on investing in their children’s education, and lessen the likelihood of people ending up in urban slums in search of earning more money. In short, this effect helps end extreme poverty!
