New Beginnings - February Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Color

The inspiration for this month’s Limited Edition color came from one of our Purchasing Team Beans, Amanda. Many of you might know Amanda, she’s actually worked here longer than all of us - taking breaks here and there to pursue her love of Equine Therapy. Last year was a big year of transitions for her, both good and bad, so she designed this color to represent all of the "New Beginnings" that have come her way. The bold transition from dark charcoal and greys to bright candy pinks and cranberry reds represents all the good things to come.

We love how this color also ties in perfectly with National Heart Month and the introduction of our latest project, Stitch Red (don't worry - you'll read more about Stitch Red below)! Starting the Stitch Red movement and focusing on Heart Disease awareness has encouraged all of us to start new beginnings for ourselves - to become more active and live healthier lifestyles. In fact, “New Beginnings” represents something even bigger than just the Jimmy Beans community, it is hope that all of you will also be inspired to join us in our desire to live heart-healthy lives. Spread the word and start your “New Beginning” today!

To figure out which new yarns you all will love, we often have to look back at what you've loved in the recent past. So, in our efforts to forecast the next big yarns of the future, we took a peek back at 2011 and all the lines you all went gaga over. What we found were a few surprising (and several not-so-surprising) top sellers we thought we would share with you. Without further ado, here are the top 11 yarns of 2011, as voted on by all of your orders!

We can't say we blame you. :) Of course, there are some of the tried and true classics like Cascade and Blue Sky Alpacas in there as well. Then there are those two up and coming yarns at the bottom of the list that have been a big hit since this past summer--yes, ruffle yarns! And they seem to be on their way up! So, if 2011 was the year of hand-dyed yarns, what will 2012 be? You tell us! Wings of Prosperity - January Limited Edition Color

This last year, Jimmy Beans has seen so many changes and so much growth that it's sometimes hard to wrap our heads around the distance we have come. From our move to a new building (with a real break room!) and the hiring of several more friendly beans to the addition of fabric in our collection - suffice to say, there have been so many changes in just this year alone!

As we ring in the New Year however, we're setting our sights on the future and we look forward to a year full of these exciting changes and possibilities. It is with this notion in mind that our fearless leader, Jimmy, decided to expand her craft skills and sew her very first quilt! The colorscape she chose includes the colors you see here in January's LLE colorway - the rich and fiery oranges and golds, in contrast with the cooling purples. Included in the prints for her quilt is Joel Dewberry's Aviary 2 Sparrows, a lovely, rich bird print. This, as you may have guessed, led to the name: Wings of Prosperity. The name is based on the quilt, yes, but it's also more than that. It's about trying new things, flying further, embracing change, and continuing to grow and prosper.

Which is what we all want from 2012, isn't it? The chance to fly higher, to grow beyond the person we are, and the opportunity to prosper as these improved individuals. Thank you all for making all these things possible for us with your continued support. Please know that we wish the same to each and every one of you!

In Japanese, Heichi means "juxtaposition," and this yarn is just that. Combining the elegance of 100% raw silk, with the rustic beauty of tweed, this is a yarn like no other. Use size 8 or 9 needles on this worsted weight yarn for stylish clothes and accessories. Or, for a different look altogether, the new Silk Cloud feels like the name suggests. The blend of 60% kid mohair and 40% silk is perfectly designed to create a glowing shine and soft halo. Use the 330 yards per skein alone for a soft, feathery shawl, or knit it with another yarn to add color and texture.

Courtney's Any Gauge Cowl	Courtney was looking for an easy pattern to use on her first cowl. She found it in our store favorite, Ann Norling's Easy Cowl in Any Gauge! The Tosh Pashmina knit up beautifully, offering its signature subtle sheen and softness to an otherwise simple and easy to knit cowl.
Leanne's Orbit Scarf	Leanne literally knit this scarf up in an hour. Even better, she was able to knit it with her arms only--no needles required! All you need for this scarf is the Orbit yarn, the pattern included on the label, and a spare hour of your time! Is that an easy gift idea, or what?!
Jeanne's Spectra Shawl	Jeanne makes us all feel like slackers. She finishes up a sweater, throws together a hat, some socks and is halfway through a shawl in the time it takes some of us to cast on. For this Spectra Shawl by Stephen West, Jeanne is using the same colorway of some self striping stash yarn. She wound two separate balls from opposite ends so the changes in colors move away from each other. While the yarn she is using is not available, she plans to make this shawl again with Kureyon Sock. She would also highly recommend Taiyo Sock, or Mini Mochi, or Poems Sock for this project.
Autumn's Rustling Leaves Beret	As soon as Coastal Knits came in, we at the shop fell in love! Autumn grabbed a skein of Silky Wool and knit this hat up in no time. Gorgeous!
Terry's Little Ravens Peruvian Style Earflap Hat	This hat is extremely cozy, fantastically warm, and exceptionally attractive to boot! The fair isle work creates incredible patterns and can be knit in 2 colors or 4 colors, whichever you choose. Terry's version is an adult large, perfect for the teenage boy it's intended for. Tiffany was the only one around the shop with a big enough head to model it! The pattern (available for purchase on Ravelry) can also be made in an adult medium or adult small size. Terry used Cascade's Baby Alpaca Chunky which is very warm and extremely soft! The finished project will make a great gift!
Leanne's Bodega Scarf	Our ruffle expert Leanne is at it again! Her latest creation (that took her less than 2 hours!) is made with just one hank of the new Bodega yarn by Trendsetter! The colors in this scarf make beautiful ruffles that even non-ruffle lovers can appreciate. For tips on working with this type of yarn, check out Jeanne's recent blog post! Thanks Leanne for bringing the ruffle-love and showing us how cute the Bodega looks knit up!
