Here in Reno, summer time is special event time: every weekend is filled with a new festival or celebration encouraging folks to get out and enjoy themselves, and do we ever!
From the Reno Air Races, Artown, and Hot August Nights, to the High Sierra Music Festival, Wanderlust, and that other one you may have heard of, Burning Man, we sure know how to make the most of the summer!
That's why we asked the daring dyers for this month's installment in the Micro-brewed Series to introduce us to their favorite festival or event, and they were excited to join the party! Check out what's happening in their neck of the woods - without ever leaving your knitting chair!

| You all know her as a rock star of the indie-dyer world, but did you know she's a true rocker at heart? Miss Babs created the Lolla All Day Long colorway as a tribute to Lollapalooza - the weekend-long music festival featuring rock, alternative, punk, and metal bands from all corners - and it's destined to become a chart-topper in soft, squishy, DK-weight Kaweah! These skeins are a riot of bright colors - blues, pinks, greens, and yellows - with some edgy black mixed in to keep things just "punk" enough! |
As if "enough" were a word that applied to Miss Babs yarn... we have several fans at the shop, and our limited supply is going to go fast! A few Beans have already whipped up amazing projects to show it off: Chris knit up his own version Age of Brass and Steam shawlette and said it was the perfect pattern to show off this rockin' color!
If you're ready for an encore, be sure to check out Mm/" target="_blank" aria-label="opens new window">her website! |

| Just one summer event stood out for Alexa of Southern California-based Oink Pigments: Comic Con! If you didn't already know she had a clever and quick-witted side from the names of her colorways (including a shade of green called "It's People", people - come on!), her tongue-in-cheek take on the 4th day of Yarn-mas (four calling birds), which she called "Four Texting Falcons", is proof she has her finger on the pulse of pop culture! This month's installment, Cosplay (dressing up as your favorite superhero, villain, or comic character), certainly fills the bill: a bright mix of teals, greens, and purples is just what the doctor (Who, Xavier, Banner, Strange... pick your favorite!) ordered! |
We can't wait to see it knitted up - just imagine it in an out-of-this-world Starshower Cowl by an equally "nerdy" designer, the Yarniad! Visit the Oink Pigments website for more of Alexa's witty yarns and colorways! |

| OK, so maybe this isn't a nationally known event, but no LYS would be quite the same without its Knit Night! Whether it's every week, month, or just once a year, a dedicated night to get together with your local knitterly crew is an event to remember - and our bi-weekly employee knit nights hold a very special place on our calendars and in our hearts! Melissa of Sweet Fiber Yarns agrees: her love of knitting was built in the LYS her mother owns in British Columbia! She created a gorgeous colorway as a tribute to Knit Night: in deliciously soft but sturdy Super Sweet Sock, this amazing mix of greys, deep teal, copper and purples is sure to sweeten up a simple shawlette - like the Sakaki Shawl by one of our local designers (and a friend at the shop!), Romi Hill! |

As usual, Saremy of Chicken Boots is spot-on (or, we should say, Spock-on!) with this month's special Stitch Marker Pouches! Either of these space-tastic designs would be right at home at Comic Con - or in your knitting bag, beach tote, or bacs/StitchMarkerPouch.asp?showLarge=true&specPCVID=69390"> | The Spock pouch is a tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy as Captain Spock, and what better way to remember him than by seeing his dashing smile and voluptuously vulpine Vulcan ears each time you grab a stitch marker or stash a coin? Love may be illogical, but these adorable pint-sized pouches make perfect sense! | And, there's another Leonard on tap this month: no matter your stance on particle physics, no discussion would be complete without a mention of The Big Bang Theory! Whether you watch the show for the academic arguments over loop quantum versus string theory, or just to hear Penny sing "Soft Kitty", you'll get a chuckle every time you pull out these cute pouches. We think even Sheldon would approve (and he might want one of those Spock pouches for himself...)!
