The deliciousness continues with the February installment in our Tasty Tosh 2015 series: Sausage, Chard, and Lemon Lasagna! This light and delicate version of the traditional Italian recipe includes lots of bright and lemony flavor, and the color reflects it: buttery yellows and creamy whites blend together for a sensational taste explosion! | And we have it in your most favorite Madelinetosh bases: Pashmina, Tosh Merino Light, Tosh DK, Tosh Sock, Tosh Vintage, and as a special surprise, Twist Light! That's right, Twist Light is here again! Many of you got an exclusive taste of this superwash merino and nylon fingering-weight blend with the very limited edition Madelinetosh Care color that benefited Doctors Without Borders. You liked it so much, Madelinetosh is making it one of their new bases; and we were lucky enough to get some of this fantastic base in the scrumptious Tasty Tosh February color! More colors are coming soon (wink, wink)! If you're wondering what to make with this scrumptious new yarn, we suggest Dull Roar's Doublish Shawlette or the Teasdale Shawl from Corrina Ferguson. |
As if it couldn't get any better, our friends at Black Rock Mud have whipped up a batch of Lemongrass Sage Soap to coordinate with this month's color. Available for purchase separately, this delectable, lightly-scented soap is infused with detoxifying Illite clay from our very own Black Rock Desert! It will leave your skin soft and your senses tingling!

We are pleased to present the Beans for Brains Scholarship again in 2015! While we aren't yet accepting applications for this year's scholarship (that will begin on April 1st - mark your calendars!) we are reaching out to everyone in our fiber-arts community to help fund this year's scholarship. In addition to all of the wonderful yarn companies who have contributed so far this year, we wanted to take things a step further by truly making this a community-wide effort. Please take a moment to watch our short video about Beans for Brains (just click above!), and then click through to our Crowd Rise site to donate. Remember, every dollar equals one more dollar we can give to a deserving student in our knitting, crocheting and weaving community! We hope you'll join us!
| If you'd rather show your support for Beans for Brains through knitting or crocheting in lieu of a donation, we've created the Beans for Brains Team Beanie Kits! Using Schachenmayr original Boston and your choice of either a knit or crochet free pattern (free on our site), we've created kits for every team in all of the major college athletic conferences (just in time for March Madness, whoot!). For every kit sold, Jimmy Beans Wool and our friends at Schachenmayr will each donate $1 (that's $2 per kit!) to Beans for Brains! Knit or crochet one for all of your college sports fans in the family, and you are automatically helping support another fiber artist's college education. Pretty cool, eh?!?! |

Even non-knitters know that cashmere is synonymous with the ultimate level of luxury: spun from the fine hair undercoat of specific goat breeds, this magnificent fiber is strong, light, and warm - everything you want for garments and accessories, and we have some beautiful new cashmere yarns from Lotus that prove it!
| Lotus Cashmere Chunky is a unique, 6-ply bulky-weight yarn made of 100% super-premium cashmere. The unique construction and beautiful hand make it perfect for soft and sumptuous accessories to be worn next the skin, and we've reworked our free Basic Neckie pattern to take full advantage! We even have kits to get you started: choose the Single Color kit in your favorite shade, or snag the Two-Color kit and have enough yarn to make two Neckies with a contrasting stripe - one for you and one for a friend! |
If the handspun look is what you're into, take a gander at Lotus Handspun Cashmere! The gorgeous thick-and-thin texture adds to the fluffy, cloud-like quality of this luxurious yarn, and we can't wait to wrap up in it! Our very own Leanne has created a simple but stunning pattern to go along with it: the Rib and Flow Cowl, a thick and plush circle that pulls on easily over your head to keep your neck comfortably warm. Unique shaping along the bottom edge gives extra coziness around the shoulders without adding bulk, and you can complete this lavish accessory with just two hanks of this heavy-worsted yarn!

We've got love on our minds here at Jimmy Beans so naturally we're thinking about one of the most beloved yarns in the shop, Koigu. And what do we love more than Koigu? Craft-alongs using Koigu! And what else? Prizes! Jimmy Beans is hosting another freeform craft-along in our Ravelry group. Start a project using Koigu on or after Valentine's Day, finish before the end of March, and enter it in our Ravelry thread to potentially win a prize. Projects made from American Merino will earn double entries! Come join us to chat about bases, colors, projects, prizes and for all the official rules! |

We have our share of talented employees here at Jimmy Beans Wool, from knitters and crocheters, to spinners and weavers, to quilters and garment makers - and even designers! Chris Salas is a Reno native who recently returned to the Silver State from Portland, and has joined our team here at JBW.
| He's created a truly unique shawl inspired by Robin Hood on the hit TV Show Once Upon a Time (you know we're avid fans!) called Quite a Common Thief, and as soon as Jimmy saw it, she had to start knitting it! She chose gorgeous, eco-friendly Malabrigo Rueca to bring this shawl to life and stay close to the earthy roots of a forest-dweller like Robin Hood. We've made kits so you can get started on your own shawl in Rueca, and then check out our fun video showcasing different colors of Rueca and some different ways you can wear it (there are many)! |
If the handspun look isn't up your alley, we encourage you to try Quite a Common Thief in some of our Malabrigo Off-Catalogue colors - test colors in many of your favorally, so be sure to keep checking up on your favorite Malabrigo yarns.

Leanne's Rib and Flow Cowl | This cozy ribbed cowl is Leanne's latest design, and it's ah - ma - zing! Light and lofty Lotus Cashmere Handspun makes this simple design squishy and textured, and so nice to wear around your neck. A ribbed cowl neck that transitions into an arched bottom edge that drapes easily about your shoulders, this cowl will become your go-to winter warmer that you'll wear with everything. Leanne has been wearing hers non-stop, making her the envy of the shop this winter!
If you love cashmere as much as we do, be sure to grab one of the Rib and Flow Cowl kits, or if you just want the pattern, you can snag your own copy in Leanne's Ravelry Store! |
Laura's Cashmere Neckies | Laura really wanted to work with the new Lotus Cashmere Chunky yarn, so she grabbed a couple of hanks and came up with this new twist on an old classic pattern of ours! The super simple Neckie pattern has been reworked to be knit at a slightly finer gauge, with this scrumptiously soft 100% Cashmere chunky yarn. Laura knit hers with a contrasting stipe, but a solid color would work as well. Find the pattern for free on our Free Patterns page and you'll be knitting in no time!
One full skein of Cashmere is needed for this pattern, but two colors will make 2 neckies with contrasting stripes. Check out our kit options for single color or two color versions of the Cashmere Neckie! |
Jeanne's Vintage Crochet Throw | Jeanne recently finished her first (beyond a hat) crochet project! This stunning throw uses Cascade 220 Heathers and the Vintage Crocheted Throw & Afghan Pattern by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. Jeanne says she learned a lot while working on this project, especially about tension in crochet and a bunch of other things. For the experienced crocheter, this project would be a breeze, but Jeanne would rate it as an intermediate project. The project used 2 skeins each of 5 different colors of Cascade 220 Heathers. Jeanne used the following five colors: Turtle, Sparrow, Dune Heather, Olive Drab Heather, and Birch Heather. The result is a super pretty autumnal colored throw that she'll love using fall through spring! |
Monika's Tribe Top | Monika crocheted this top out of Rowan Panama in color #307 Tulip, using the free Tribe pattern from the Rowan Website. The result is a cute bohemian top that can be layered over tanks or long sleeves and is easy to dress up or down with jeans or a nice skirt! Here is what Monika had to say about the project:
"I would technically assign this pattern an intermediate status, but worktop turned out! Nice work, Monika! |

Sandy even knit several different versions of the Pembroke Shawl while she was out having chemo; Erika recently bound off on the Ume Shawl, and Monika knit the Sentiment Shawl for Leanne! Andrea's trunk show will be here until the 23rd, so if you are in the area, be sure to stop on by and check it out! We also just received the Dull Roar trunk show of designs from Alex Tinsley and we'll have it for a full month! Yippee! |

We're taking over the world.... with Yarn Bouquets! We recently took a step outside the knitting world to run an advertisement featuring some of our most popular Rowan Yarn Bouquets on a podcast called The Art of Charm - a broadcast geared towards turning "ordinary guys into extraordinary men" (though honestly, you can easily sub in the words "folks" for "guys" and "people" for "men" - both Laura and Leanne are huge fans of the show and they HIGHLY recommend it!). You can check out episode that aired Monday, February 10th to get a taste of what the Art of Charm is all about, and hear Jordan, the voice of AOC, talk about your favorite yarn shop, and remind all those thoughtful boyfriends and husbands out there what their significant others really want -YARN!
