Quite a number of us here at Jimmy Beans are huge How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) fans, so we couldn't resist dedicating our September Limited Edition color to the show as it begins its 9th and final season this month! If you are a fan of the show, then you know that Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) uses the phrase, "It's going to be Legen...wait for it...dary!" frequently throughout the show in order to attempt to get the gang excited about whatever ridiculous hijinks he's trying to rope them into. It's definitely a recurring (and ultimately hilarious) theme throughout the series, so much so that it even leads Marshall and Lily (two of the show's main characters) to give their son the middle name "Wait For It" in honor of Barney's famous phrase. The autumn hues in this month's color way mimic the rich tones of New York City (where the show is set): chocolate brown, bronze patina, muted teal blues, and hints of plum.
We thought this theme would also be a great opportunity to recognize how Legen...wait for it...Dary Lorna's Laces is! Six years ago in 2007 we debuted our first Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color and we've never looked back! Since then, Lorna's Laces has remained one of our consistently best-selling yarn brands with their amazing and uniquely variegated colors. What better way to celebrate Lorna's than with this legendary color!?!?
Legen...wait for it...Dary is available in all of your favorite Lorna's Laces yarns including: Haymarket (Lorna's newest yarn), Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Worsted, Shepherd Sport, Helen's Lace, Lion & Lamb, Honor, Solemate, and Sportmate!

| Have you ever thought about dyeing your own yarn, but been a bit intimidated by the process? Well we have created the perfect beginner set to allow you to give it a try! The Dye-It-Yourself Gift Sets, featuring yarn from Universal, are the latest addition to our growing collection of gift baskets, bouquets and sets. They make fantastic gifts for your favorite knitter, kids, or for you! |
Dyeing yarn with Kool-Aid is simple, family-friendly, and as an added bonus makes your yarn smell deliciously fruity! Our new Dye-It-Yourself Gift Sets include one skein of Universal Deluxe Worsted yarn, two packets of Kool-Aid, and a color coordinating Universal Luxury Fur Pom Pom; all packaged in a quart sized mason jar to dye your yarn in! Additionally, we will include instructions for solar dying your yarn as well as Universal's Basic Beanie pattern (from the free e-book Hot Hats) so you can knit your personally hand-dyed yarn into a cute hat topped with a furry pom pom!
They come in five fabulous and bright (practically neon!) "flavors": Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Grape, Lemon-Lime and Orange. Since this process is chemical-free and doesn't require any hot surfaces it is a great activity for families to do together on a sunny afternoon. You should easily be able to get two hats out of the one skein of Deluxe Worsted, one for yourself and a matching one for your little helper! Once you try solar dyeing you'll be hooked, we all certainly were! |

New this season from Universal is the lovely Deluxe Worsted Superwash - fantastically soft 4-ply worsted weight wool that is also quite durable and sure to create long lasting knits! It would make wonderful (and machine-washable!) kids' and baby items, and there is a large variety of colors to choose from. Also new to Jimmy Beans Wool is the Universal Deluxe Worsted (featured in the Dye-it-Yourself Sets mentioned above); it is made of 100% wool, making it a great choice for traditional hand-wash knits and felted projects. With a palette of over 140 colors, this yarn is perfect for color-work, plus it boasts a generous 220 yards! Both of these yarns are quite economical and great for larger projects like sweaters or an afghan!

Zara Melange - 1629 Crimson Heather $11.50 | Zara Melange may look simple, but it has a lot going on. This sport weight extra fine merino is machine washable and hard wearing, has great stitch definition and is deliciously soft to boot! Great for any number of projects from baby sweaters to grown up cardis, Zara Melange comes in a wide ranging palette of heathery, subtly marled colors. Use 2-3 balls for the kids Snap Cardigan by CocoKnits or just 2 balls for Never Not Knitting's Cloudy Day Beret. Feeling ambitious? Zara would be perfect for the Knitbot Sycamore Vest, which requires between 6 and 11 balls. | Be Sweet Eyelet Ponchini From $114.00 to $120.00 | From the wonderfully talented designer StevenBe and Be Sweet, StevenBe Set 1 includes the pattern for both the Eyelet Ponchini and the Honeycomb cowl. The Eyelet Ponchini is a super versatile piece that can be worn in several different ways including a poncho, cowl, scarf or hooded cowl. It is knit with Be Sweet Extra Fine Mohair and Bamboo held double, which gives the garment a subtle halo and sheen as well as wonderful drape. The second pattern included in the set is the light-weight and lacey Queen Bee Honeycomb Cowl, also knit with Be Sweet Extra Fine Mohair and Bamboo held double. | Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Lace - LP42 Faberge $23.60 | New to Jimmy Beans Wool this season is the Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Lace. It is available in a range of colors including both brightly variegated and subtly tonal shades. The 100% baby alpaca fiber content is so incredibly soft and warm that you won't want to knit with anything else this winter! Indulge yourself with a cozy shawl or wrap since the generous 874 yards per hank can easily accommodate a large piece! | Drawstring Tool - Leopard $8.95 | The Drawstring Tool is for more than just drawstrings! We've found it comes in handy for both crafty and non-crafty endeavors. This small, easy to maneuver hook has an ergonomic handle that not only allows you to dig "lost" drawstrings out of your favorite pair of sweatpants, it also works for retrieving jewelry from hard to reach nooks, or grab wires from behind your entertainment system! | Mimi Hand Dyed - 08 Bali $31.50 | Lotus Yarns Mimi, the fabulously soft 100% mink yarn, now comes in a gorgeous array of hand dyed colors! There are 10 variegated colors ranging from vivid and bright to rich and earthy. The mink fiber is also slightly fuzzy, giving the yarn a bit of a halo as well as causing a "heathered" effect in the colors. Each 50g skein yields an impressive 330 yards of incredibly soft fingering weight yarn, making it a wonderful option for a small shawlette! |

| With cooler weather on the horizon, it's time to start knitting those new accessories for fall! A good one to start with is the stunning Uno, DOS, Tres Cowl; one of our Free Patterns that uses "Dos," a Malabrigo yarn exclusive to JBW. The Uno, DOS, Tres Cowl uses three different colors from Dos' soft, all-naturally dyed color palette and a simple half-linen stitch pattern to create a beautiful and lightweight cowl that is perfect for year-round wear. Super soft baby merino wool is light and airy next to skin, and makes for a beautiful everyday garment that you'll want to wear again and again. |
Simple stripe details are our favorite, and we love how this neutral combination will go with just about anyone's wardrobe! Choose any three colors for a simple and classic cowl you can wear year-round - and best of all, it's now available at 20% off! |

We are all abuzz about the newest yarns from Cascade and we just couldn't wait to share them with you! First up we have the self-striping Souk, a blend of wool and silk that is just to die for! This yarn has a slight rustic feel to it that, once knit and blocked, softens into a lovely drapey fabric. Each worsted weight skein boasts 220 yards to work with. Another yarn we are excited about is the Pure Alpaca. Pure Alpaca is not a new yarn in the Cascade line, but it is new to us and we are absolutely in love! This amazingly soft yarn is 100% alpaca and knits up at a worsted weight gauge, making it perfect for sweaters and blankets. It's also available in all of the gorgeous Cascade colors you know and love! Other new yarns in the Cascade line for fall include 220 Superwash Aran and Longwood. 220 Superwash Aran takes one of your favorite Cascade yarns (and one of our best-sellers), 220 Superwash, and bulks it up just a bit for a slightly chunkier yarn that is perfect for sweaters, blankets, accessories and more! It's especially great for easy-care gift items (baby knitting, anyone?) that you want to make sure will stand the test of time. Longwood is a 100% Superfine Merino Superwash worsted weight yarn that is as soft as can be and just delicious to knit with! Similar to the 220 Superwash as well, but a little bit softer, this new gem takes extra-fine merino to a new level with a sophisticated color palette that would look great as your next sweater, accessory, or afghan project! KAL alert! Terry is hosting an informal KAL for the Great American Aran Afghan. You can use any worsted weight yarn you'd like (Terry has chosen the Longwood for hers) and work at your it over the next few months on the JBW Blog, and helping folks along in the JBW Ravelry Group. Feel free to join in on the fun and learn some new skills! If you're just joining and don't yet have the book, Great American Aran Afghan, you may notice we're out of stock. There are more books on the way and we're expecting to receive them by Wednesday the 11th! Feel free to order one now (we'll ship it as soon as it arrives), or check back on Wednesday! |

Recently Laura wrote an article for Inc.com called Grow Talent; Don't Buy It where she highlighted Monika's role here at Jimmy Beans Wool. We thought this was the perfect opportunity to introduce her to all of you! As well as being our resident German speaker, Monika is an avid knitter and crocheter who loves quick chunky projects and rainbow colors. As you can imagine, lately she has been creating lots of hats with SMC Boston, since that yarn has such fun and fabulously bright colors! She also is a quilter, seamstress, spinner and yarn dyer; this gal really does it all!
Right now she is working on the Alpine Shawl, a free pattern from Cascade, in Ultra Pima, as well as some Gum Drop Pillows with Tula Pink's Nightshade fabric, and a quilt using Me and My Sister's Shades of Black fabric. In addition to her crafty adventures, Monika loves camping, hiking and taking full advantage of the beautiful scenery here in Northern Nevada!
On a day to day basis, Monika works hard to keep our website functioning beautifully! She also answers our pesky computer questions and helps troubleshoot any problems we may have. As Laura mentioned in her article, Monika has worked at Jimmy Beans Wool for two years and has been part of the customer service, receiving/backorders and fabric teams. She pretty much knows how to do everything around here!
