New to knitting? Let us help you narrow down the yarns, patterns, and needles and find the perfect project!
While most knitters' first project is a scarf, once you can knit and purl it's time to take the leap and try a simple hat, sweater (or a baby sweater for a quicker knit!), mittens, or even socks! The patterns we have listed here are great for beginners because the instructions are clear and they feature simple shaping techniques. Remember to be patient with yourself, and don't be afraid to ask questions (you can even call us here at the store!). Just take a deep breath go for it, you can do it!
When choosing a beginner yarn, we've put together a few guidelines:
Lighter Colors - make it easier to see your stitches
Wool and Alpacas - these fibers have more stretch
Plain, non-furry fibers - your needle doesn't get caught in the yarn as much
Worsted weight or heavier - yarn that is too thin takes forever to knit and can be discouraging
