Leanne fell in love with Alabama Chanin's easy and rustic style, so when she bought a copy of Alabama Studio Sewing + Design, she couldn't help but jump in and hand sew her own dress! She says from start to finish, the entire project took her about a day. She used some sale jersey she bought at Joann's (about 1.5 yds, but it really depends on the size you want to make) that had a print on one side and solid on the back. This made it easy to use the back side of her fabric as the contrast trim on the arm holes and neckline. She says that the ruffle on the bottom of the dress was actually unplanned, but she accidentally made the dress too short, so the ruffle was an afterthought. We think it looks totally adorable (and intentional!) She says the jersey fabric is soft and comfy, and she has already worn it a ton. Anyone who is afraid of hand-sewing should try an Alabama Chanin project! The basics are much more simple than they look and the book comes with fantastic instruction and tutorials! Nice work Leanne!
