Kristen's Basic Neckie Knitting Pattern

Share This Page Share | Send to Facebook Tweet This Email
This pattern comes to us from Kristen Ashbaugh of Marinade Designs. Like a few of our other employees, Kristen is working on a pattern line of her own. Since the cowl/neckie is one of her all time favorite designs, she wanted to share her pattern with all of you!
Kristen and Wallace are both wearing their neckies! Kristen's friend Carolyn models a basic neckie!
"If you are anything like me and find long scarves kind of annoying because you are always adjusting them, try this recipe for a cozy and cute Neckie! Say goodbye to scarves and embrace these hip little warmers perfect for icy winter days and staying warm on the ski slopes. They are also perfect for transitioning into spring with lighter layers."
Materials
Gauge: 2.5 sts to the inch. Finished piece should measure about 7"x18".
Abbreviations
  • CO - Cast On
  • BO - Bind Off
  • K - Knit
  • P - Purl
  • sts - Stitches
  • K1 F&B - Make a bar increase by knitting into the front and the back of the same stitch where an increase is needed.
Directions
  • CO 17 sts (I like a double/long-tail cast on)
  • Begin by knitting every row (garter stitch) for 2.5".
  • Beginning Center pattern:
    -First Row- K6, P5, K6.
    -Second Row- K every stitch.
  • Repeat first row and second row of center pattern until piece measures 15.5". You should end with a full row of knitting.
  • Finishing:
-Return to knitting every row for 6 more rows.
-Row 7: K until 4 sts before the end of row. BO 2sts, K last 2 sts. This is the beginning of the buttonhole.
    -Row 8: K1, K1 F&B, K1 F&B, K to the end of the row.
    -Row 9: BO loosely.
-Finish by using large darning needle to weave in the ends. Sew button onto piece at the opposite end of button-hole.
