I made this
Goodale Cardigan as part of our KAL with yarn from my stash. I had purchased four - 1 lbs cones of Jaggerspun yarn about 4 years ago and decided it was time to use some of it up. As 2/8s yarn, it is a fingering weight and the pattern calls for a sportweight, so I knew working a gauge swatch would be very important. This was the best swatching lesson I've ever learned, and I will never make a sweater again without checking gauge properly. If you want to make this cardigan in a fingering weight,
Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light would be a great one to check out.
I made a couple of small modifications. I folded back the front edge and knit it together with the body when I started the ribbing at the bottom, and I added about 3 rounds of knit before I started the ribbing on the sleeves. If I make this pattern again, I will most likely add more rounds to the sleeves and experiment with doing the I-cord like edge along each front a little differently as I had trouble getting each side to look similar.
At first, I was lukewarm about the pattern as it's not a style I normally wear and skeptical about the lifted increases for the shoulders. As I progressed, I really started to like the sweater and the increases worked beautifully! I'm very happy with it and when the weather cools a little it will be one of my go to sweaters for everyday wear.
